Martin McGuinness says he has been "warmly welcomed" during the State Visit to London. The North's Deputy First Minister was targeted by protesters outside Windsor Castle on Tuesday and former Conservative Minister Norman Tebbit said he hoped he would be "shot in the back".

Mr. Tebbit was injured along with his wife in the 1984 Brighton bomb which targeted the Conservative Party conference.

The comments came after Mr. McGuinness attended a banquet with Queen Elizabeth II on Tuesday night.

Martin McGuinness says claims he has not been welcomed are "exaggerated". However he says his "heart goes out" to anyone affected by the Troubles.

Last night the Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams condemned the comments by the former chairman of the UK Conservative Party.

Gerry Adams told The Right Hook here on Newstalk these remarks show that the "issue of the past" needs to be dealt with.
