Argentina have claimed the top spot in Group F at the World Cup.

Two goals from team captain Lionel Messi helped Argentina to a 3 - 2 win over Nigeria in their top-of-the-table clash in Porto Alegre, with one of his goals coming from an expertly-taken free-kick.

Despite the defeat, Nigeria sill advanced to the last-16 as runners-up after Iran were beaten 3 - 1 by Bosnia.

The win for Argentina means that they will now face the runners-up from Group E, which will be decided later tonight.

France are favourites to top the group as they prepare to take-on Ecuador in Rio de Janeiro. But Ecudor have to win tonight's game in order to be guaranteed their place in the second round.

Meanwhile, Switzerland also have hopes of reaching the last-16 when they face Honduras in Manaus.
