President Michael D Higgins is in Turkey today to join commemorations to mark 100 years since the Battle of Gallipoli.
More than 130,000 troops fell during the months long campaign, including more than 3,000 Irishmen.
It will be the first time fallen Irish soldiers will be acknowledged in their own right by the Defence Forces, who will play Amhrán na bhFiann as part of the ceremony.
