Last year a team of seven cycled from Land's End to John O'Groats to raise money for the Ireland Fund of Great Britain. The cycle was a huge success raising over €30,000 for the Irish people who are in need while living in the UK.

This year the group are organising another cycle this August from Mizen to Malin Head and are currently recruiting cyclists and sponsors.

The cycle will start at Mizen Head, County Cork on the 28 August 2014 and with a fair wind finishing at Malin Head County Donegal on the 1 September 2014, 5 days cycling – 400 miles.

The 5 day stages are:

  • Thursday 28 August 2014 – Mizen Head to Killarney – 74.3 miles
  • Friday 29 August 2014 – Killarney to Doolin (via ferry over River Shannon from Tarbert to Kilimer) total miles – 89.3 miles
  • Saturday 30 August 2014 – Doolin to Claremorris – 81.6 miles
  • Sunday 31 August 2014 – Claremorris to Donegal – 84.8 miles
  • And Monday 1 September 2014 – Donegal to Malin Head – 77.7 miles – finishing dinner in Derry.

It’s circa 80 miles a day – well doable for anyone with a bike and a reasonable level of fitness.

Established in 1988, The Ireland Fund of Great Britain distributes funds to community organisations across the UK whose focus is to support Irish people who are in health, housing, social or psychological need.

Here Michael Flatley has a special message of support for the organisation:
