More than 60,000 students will receive their Junior Cert results today

60,327 candidates across the country sat the exam this year, the majority of whom will collect their results at school later, which will also be available online from 4pm.

The Minister for Education has sent her congratulations to students receiving their Junior Cert results this morning.

There's been a greater uptake in Honours Maths which contained a significant component of the Project Maths programme.

The National Associations of Principals and Deputy Principals say that 54 percent of all students took the higher level papers this year, representing a 52 percent increase on 2013.

This morning, Newstalk Breakfast spoke to John O’ Donavan, Principal of saint Joseph’s Secondary School in Ballybunion in Kerry and Chair of the ASTI Principals and Deputy Principals Advisory Committee, who said that while the increased uptake in honours maths is positive, Junior Cert students would have to achieve a very good grade if they're hoping to continue at higher level for the Leaving Cert:
