New statistics from the Road Safety Authority (RSA) reveal the make of car that is most likely to pass the NCT.

Out of over one million cars tested in 2013, the most reliable proved to be the Toyota Auris.

The Irish Sun used the Freedom of Information Act to get their hands on the data- which also shows that lighting and electrical faults were the most common reasons that cars failed.

Toyotas made up the top three 2007 registered models. The oldest car to be tested - which was a 1929 Ford - also passed.

In 2013, more cars registered in 2005 and 2007 were tested than any other year, and are the years considered most representative.

A minimum of 1,000 of each model had to be tested in that year to be included in this study.
