Nearly 4.3m trips to Ireland between January and July

New figures have shown were 4,292,400 trips to Ireland in the first seven months of the year, while the number of people travelling to Ireland increased by more than 11% during the last three months.

The figures from the Central Statistics Office show the total number of trips to Ireland rose by 231,000 to 2.3m between May and July, when compared with the same time last year.

The number of trips from North America jumped more than 16%, while the number of UK visitors rose by 8.5%.

Overall, the total number of trips to Ireland increased by 9.9% for the first seven months of 2014 compared to the same period in 2013.

The statistics come as a new report has found that Irish hotel industry is showing significant signs of recovery.
