Johan Mjallby will be assistant manager, with Garry Parker appointed as first team coach.
Neil Lennon served as Celtic manager between 2010 and May of this year. His achievements there include two Scottish Cups and three successive titles in the Scottish League.
With only five points in 11 games, Bolton will be hoping Lennon can save them from relegation.
