PSNI are appealing for witnesses following an arson attack on a pensioner's home in Derry.

It happened in the Camelia Court area just before six o'clock this evening.

It was reported that some form of flammable liquid had been poured through the letterbox of the house and set on fire.

The 70-year-old female occupant was able to extinguish the fire which caused scorch damage to the door.

Police who were called to the scene had missiles thrown at them by youths.

The rear screen of a police vehicle was smashed.

PSNI Sergeant Joe George said, "a motive for this incident has yet to be established and I would appeal to any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact Police at Strand Road."
