John Giles reckons Manchester City should think about sacking manager Manuel Pellegrini.

The Chilean had publicly admitted that City's players were "mentally tired" after the Liverpool loss.

Speaking to Off The Ball tonight, 24 hours after City's title hopes seemingly went up in smoke against Sunderland, John questioned Pellegrini's attitude.

"What [Pellegrini] is saying in effect is: 'I didn't do my job since Saturday'. I liked him early on in the season and he made a lot of sense. But I must say this was very, very poor. I think if I was an owner, I'd say you'd have to go," said John.

"It's his job to get the players mentally right after a defeat like that. You don't just say 'we weren't up for it'. It's total nonsense. This is when a manager shows what he can do and how he leads the team. That was like a surrender last night."

John also praised Liverpool after their 3 - 2 win over City. But he felt Steven Gerrard's post-match huddle on the pitch was "too public" in the context of the title race.

"It was too public for me. I think if you do something like that, you should do it in the dressing room. I think it was a big PR job for Gerrard to be honest," John told Adrian.

This week also saw former Manchester United player Liam Whelan hit the headlines for the wrong reasons. Vandals defaced a North Dublin bridge dedicated to a player who passed away at the age of 22 in the 1958 Munich Air Disaster.

John, who joined Man United in 1957 gave us a unique insight into his fellow Dubliner and said "he was a very nice chap" and the "leading goalscorer for Man United" despite being a midfielder.

On the 25th anniversary of Hillsborough, John shared his memories of the tragedy - a game he attended as a commentator.

John also chatted about the "nonsense" between Crystal Palace and Cardiff City, plus he gave his take on Arsene Wenger's uncertain future at Arsenal.
