There are reports today that a one-off public holiday is one of the proposals being discussed to commemorate the Easter Rising in 2016.
A military parade is already expected to be a main feature of the programme of events.
Junior Minister Kathleen Lynch is proposing the Easter Rising commemorations could also include a statement about the country's future.
No decision has been made on the proposal yet, but Minister of State at the Department of Health Kathleen Lynch told Breakfast that rather than 'razzmatazz' and flyovers, maybe it should include a statement about our expectation for people for the future.
It was also revealed in April that the National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) are to make €5 million available to a monument project being planned for Moore Street.
The investment is to fund the development of a National Museum and Commemorative Centre to celebrate the historical significance of 14 to 17 Moore Street.
The buildings of 14 to 17 Moore Street were the last meeting place and headquarters of the provisional government, which was set up during 1916. The buildings are widely reported to be the site of the final surrender of the 1916 rebels.
