Two unions have rejected proposals to the Croke Park deal. The largest trade union in the country SIPTU rejected the revised agreement on pay and reform by a margin of 53% to 46%.

The SIPTU General-President Jack O'Connor says the vote reflects the sense of grievance among working people and public service workers. He says his members will consider all options to express their opposition Croke Park 2.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) has also overwhelmingly rejected the proposals on a possible extension to the agreement with 95.5% against.

Commenting on the results INMO General-Secretary Liam Doran said "After a nationwide series of information meetings, followed by workplace ballots, it is confirmed that the vast majority of our members have evaluated the proposals and found them to be deeply flawed".

"It is emerging, based upon the results from other public service unions, that these proposals do not enjoy sufficient support as a majority of unions look like they are set to reject them. Against this background it is imperative that, in the first instance, the ICTU adopts a strategy which will maintain a cohesive and collective approach, on this issue".

"It is equally important that no move is made to try and force these proposals on to all workers who have so clearly rejected same" he added.

Meanwhile IMPACT members have voted to accept the deal by a margin of 56% to 44%. The union will now cast all its votes in favour of the proposed agreement at the ICTU Public Services Committee meeting tomorrow.

Earlier the Prison Officers Association and the Public Service Executive Union voted to accept the propsed deal while UNITE rejected it. The Public Service Executive Union saw 61% vote in favour of the proposals with 39% voting no.

The government has warned it will legislate for across the board pay cuts of around 7% if unions do not accept Croke Park 2.

Speaking in the Dail Taoiseach Enda Kenny said the government has to now consider these results.

Sinn Fein's Mary-Lou McDonald says unions were put under duress while negotiating this agreement.

While Seán Fleming of Fianna Fail says unions have shown strength in the face of an 'unfair' deal.
