Fine Gael TD Sean Conlan has been released without charge, after he was earlier arrested in connection with an assault.
The Cavan-Monaghan TD went to Castleblayney garda station by appointment at 9.30am this morning.
He has since been released without charge and a file has been prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
No other arrests have been made over the incident, which happened at a pub in Ballybay August 23rd.
It is understood a number of witnesses to the incident have been interviewed by officers in the past week.
In a statement, Mr Conlan says: "I attended the garda station in Castleblayney this morning voluntarily to give my statement of complaint to the gardaí about the assault which was perpetrated on me in my family pub last Sunday".
"I cooperated fully with the gardaí".
"As this is an ongoing investigation I will be making no further comment in relation to the matter".
