Ulster have confirmed that Stephen Ferris is to retire.

The back row recently returned from a 16 month injury lay-off due to an ankle injury but only lasted four games.

The 28-year-old represented his country on 35 occasions and played in every game of Ireland's 2009 Grand Slam winning campaign.

He made his Ulster debut in 2005 at the age of 20.
