The government parties have seen an increase in popularity, according to a new Paddy Power Red C Poll.
The poll stated that the government parties made gains in March, as support for Independent candidates falls back, and the main opposition parties remain stable.
There is possible early signs of a turnaround for Fine Gael are seen in today’s poll, with the party securing 26% of the first preference vote, up 2% from February and the highest level the party has recorded since before the budget in September 2014.
Enda Kenny is performing relatively well for the party as his leadership rating has increased, and he continues to be the highest performing party leader, particularly among his own party supporters.
Labour also sees a slight boost this period from 7% to 9% -however they have not yet managed to return to double digits since May 2014.
Sinn Féin had a busy week that has ended up with them holding ground in terms of support across the country, with the party remaining at 21%.
The results from the poll are as follows:
- Fine Gael 26% [+2] ;
- Labour 9% [also +2];
- Fianna Fail 17% [-1];
- Sinn Féin 21% [No change]
- Independents/Others 27% [-3]
