The Independent TD Mick Wallace says he broke into Shannon Airport to inspect whether there were arms on two US military aircraft.

He and Deputy Clare Daly were both released without charge this afternoon, after being arrested for trying to access the aircraft.

They were stopped on the tarmac by airport police before being handed over to gardai who briefly detained them at Shannon garda station.

It is understood the pair accessed the apron at Shannon at around 12:20pm this afternoon. Both were wearing high-viability vests at the time.

According to anti-war activists, they were planning to inspect a US military aircraft.

They were taken to Shannon garda station, before being released without charge. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Deputy Wallace says he does not know if he will be charged.

Edward Horgan from 'Shannon Watch' explains what happened.

While the chairman of the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee, Pat Breen, has said that anybody entering restricted zones at Shannon "for publicity" should be dealt with accordingly.
