The UK publisher of a new online newspaper has agreed not to use the name 'The Times Ireland' following legal objections.

The publishers of the Irish Times claimed the title infringed its trademark and copyright.

Times Newspapers Ltd - the UK publishers of The Sunday Times - are behind the new online Irish newspaper.

The seven-day edition will be an all digital offering by a Dublin-based team.

Its launch is imminent, and it was to be called 'The Times Ireland'.

But last week, The Irish Times Ltd went to the High Court raising legal objections to the title claiming it was a breach of its company trademark and copyright.

Their lawyers argued the potential for confusion was enormous.

Times Newspapers Ltd have now agreed not to use the title or the domain name timesireland.ie.

Mr Justice Raymond Fulham was told by both sides he could strike out the case.
