The architect with an address at Kerrymount Close, Foxrock was convicted at the Central Criminal Court last month.

A victim impact report prepared by her father, Frank, was read out by the prosecution at the hearing.

In the statement, the family stated: "We have lost a daughter, a sister and a friend in the most brutal traumatic and horrifying manner."

Youth reportedly armed with crossbow allegedly kills teacher in Barcelona

A pupil reportedly armed with a crossbow has allegedly killed a teacher and injured at least three others at a high school in Barcelona.

A police spokesman said the 13-year-old has been detained on suspicion of murder on Monday morning - and there were unconfirmed reports a crossbow was used.

According to local media, the teenage boy had arrived in class an hour late, and had a crossbow and a knife in his backpack.

The Garda Commissioner says the force will investigate how a member ended up participating in a photocall organised by a group calling for a Yes vote in the referendum on same-sex marriage.
