Obituaries - not exactly the most entertaining reads at the best of times. They’re usually just a place for some factual information and funeral details, the more in-depth efforts reserved for celebrities.

Someone thought Bloomingdale resident William Freddie McCullough deserved a more fitting send-off. Savannah Now has hosted a fitting tribute to “The man. The myth. The legend.” It almost goes without saying that “men wanted to be him and women wanted to be with him”.

In less than 500 words, we’re granted an insight into one man’s life and charismatic personality. He was a born storyteller, and “you could be sure 50% of every story was true. You just never knew which 50%”. He had a love for fast food and Jim Beam, but “hated vegetables and hypocrites”. But most of all, he was a hopeless, charming romantic: "There isn't enough space here to list all of the women from Freddie's past. There isn't enough space in the Bloomingdale phone book".

As for the cause of death? The author explains “Freddie was killed when he rushed into a burning orphanage to save a group of adorable children. Or maybe not. We all know how he liked to tell stories”.

You can read the full obituary here. We almost feel like we knew good ol’ Freddie after reading it.
