Organisers of the next major demonstration against Irish Water have encountered an unexpected problem – not enough people have received their Irish Water bills.

Protesters have been asked to bring their Irish Water bills to the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin to put them in the bin in a protest against water charges, however it seems the protest could be disrupted - because not enough people have received bills yet.

Socialist TD Ruth Coppinger says organisers will have to come up with an alternative.

“On Saturday we may have to have mock bills so people can practice what they’ll when the real bills do come because most people still haven’t received the bills.

“It is very, very slow - has been our experience, certainly in the Dublin West area,” she said.

The ‘Bin Your Bills’ protest has been planned for several months. Irish Water was initially expected to send out most bills in April, although the company has since said the full process of distributing bills won’t be complete until June.
