Garth Brooks has said if there is any chance his five Dublin concerts can be salvaged, he is ready to proceed with them.

In a letter to Peter Aiken, the singer said "I was informed yesterday that the shows are cancelled and the refunds will begin on Monday. I cannot begin to tell you how badly my heart is breaking right now".

"To tell 160,000 people they are not welcome would be a nightmare".

"To do what the city manager suggests (play three show and not all five) means I agree that is how people should be treated and I just can't agree with that".

"Our guys are still en route and if there is any chance that the five planned concerts can be salvaged and nobody is being let down then we can proceed as planned until the refunds begin".

"If you tell me, 'Garth, thanks but it is over." I will cease my efforts and bring our people and gear back to the States".

"If you think that the "powers that be" can fix this, then I will faithfully go to the last second".

"Please let me know how to proceed" he added.

The Taoiseach earlier ruled out any last ditch bid by the government to save the concerts.

Aiken Promotions, the GAA and the Dublin City Council manager are being called to a meeting of the Oireachtas Tourism Committee on Friday.

For his part, Peter Aiken today likened the fiasco to 'living in a nightmare' - but he says the singer made the right decision.

400,000 fans had tickets for the concerts. But Peter Aiken says he thinks Garth Brooks made the right decision.

"If you see it from his point of view: he sold 400,000 tickets - he wasn't going to come and not play to 160" he said.

"But he couldn't come and do three shows and then there's 160,000 people who don't get to see him".

"I think his decision is the right decision in that he couldn't play three shows and leave two shows - 160,000 people - not seeing him" he added.

Fianna Fáil is adamant that emergency legislation could be pushed through the Dáil to allow the concerts go ahead:

But Enda Kenny says he will not do that.

The country singer yesterday announced the cancellation of all five concerts at Croke Park, scheduled to happen in just two weeks. Mr. Brooks made the decisions after Dublin City Council failed to grant licenses for two of the shows last week.

Ticketmaster has said all monies will be refunded to credit cards used to make the purchases on July 15th, including the service charges.

If customers want to receive their credit in the post, a refund form is available via the Garth Brooks FAQ page at www.ticketmaster.ie/gbrefunds.

People can also return their tickets to the ticket centre where they were purchased and complete the refund form, which will be available at the ticket centre from July 15th.

A completed form together with the tickets should be handed in at the ticket centre. The firm says a refund by bank transfer will be processed within 21 days of receiving the form and tickets.

For those not able to get to a ticket centre you can complete and return this form, along with your tickets, to PO Box 4695, Dublin 2.

Managing Director of Ticketmaster Ireland, Keith English, said "We understand the disappointment of Garth Brooks fans. Having reviewed the huge task at hand, we believe the process we have outlined is the simplest and most efficient for fans".

"The scale of this operation is unprecedented and therefore we would ask customers to continue to be patient" he added.
