Events are taking place across the country today to mark International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Hundreds of people are set to assemble at the Central Bank in Dublin city centre at around 11.30 this morning, and march to the Garden of Remembrance.

It's being organised by a number of anti-racist groups, civil society associations, NGOs, trade unions and others.

The anti-racism day was first established by the UN in 1960, in response to the murder of 69 anti-apartheid demonstrators in Sharpeville, South Africa.

Spokesperson for the Immigrant Council of Ireland Jerry O'Connor says there is still work to be done to stamp out racism:

Yesterday, a study published by European Network Against Racism (Ireland) found those of Black African descent were most likely to suffer from racial abuse in Ireland.

Reporter Roisin Treacy visited the event this morning.
