A boy (2) has died after being hit by a van in Co Tipperary last night.

The crash happened just before 8 O'clock on the Rosanna Road in Tipperary Town.

Gardaí attended the scene and administered CPR. The child was brought by ambulance to South Tipperary General Hospital and was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The driver and passenger of the van were not injured.

The road has been closed for a forensic collision examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
