Gardaí have confirmed that the bodies of a man and a woman have been pulled from the River Lee close to Cork City centre.

They were recovered by Naval divers late last night, after a search was mounted for a 27 year old homeless woman reported missing over a week ago.

The discovery was made after gardai studied CCTV footage in their bid to locate the missing 27-year-old woman who was last seen on December 4th in the Andersons Quay area of the city centre.

The divers have now concluded their mission and returned to their Naval Base.

Red Fm reports that Gardaí are not treating the deaths as suspicious but believe both were tragic incidents and the bodies were transferred to Cork University Hospital for post-mortem examinations today.

The young man has yet to be formally identified by gardai but it's believed that he's originally from the Skibbereen area.

Lunchtime presenter Jonathan Healy spoke to Newstalk Breakfast this morning about the incident and discussed what homeless services are like for people in Cork city:
