A US doctor says the commercial use of drips to treat hangovers should not be allowed.

The treatment is available in cities across America and supporters insist it is quick, effective and safe - despite little scientific evidence.

A session with intravenous fluid can cost US$200 (€160) a go.

For those who really cannot get out of bed, some businesses even offer an in-home service for an extra fee.

But alcohol abuse specialist Dr Lorenzo Leggio - who advises the U.S. government - is not convinced.

However student Jacob Silverman from New York is convinced it does.
