The Ulster Unionist Party will vote today on recommendation that it withdraws from the North's power sharing Executive.

The party's leader Mike Nesbitt says Sinn Féin has 'no credibility' - and the UUP has 'no trust' in the party.

Unionists have been threatening to exclude Sinn Féin from Stormont after the PSNI said the Provisional IRA still exists - and linked its members to the murder of Kevin McGuigan in Belfast earlier this month.

A DUP delegation met the Northern Secretary earlier this week and is due to hold talks with British Prime Minister David Cameron.

The DUP says the exclusion of Sinn Féin would be preferable to the withdrawal of the UUP.

If the UUP - a minor partner in the five-party mandatory coalition - votes in favour of its leadership's recommendation, it will not automatically cause the collapse of the administration. However it would throw its future into serious doubt.

PSNI Chief constable George Hamilton said last week that the Provisional IRA was not engaged in terrorism, and was instead pursuing peaceful, political republicanism.

However, he said that some of the paramilitary organisation's members were potentially involved in the murder of Kevin McGuigan two weeks ago.

Chief Constable Hamilton added there is no evidence the killing was sanctioned by the organisation. The PSNI investigation into the murder is ongoing.

Sinn Féin has vehemently denied the claim that the IRA is still in existence - with party president Gerry Adams making firm denials that the group is still operating.
