Uruguay have virtually assured themselves of a place at the 214 World Cup after hammering Jordan 5 - 0 in their World Cup playoff first leg in Amman.

With the second leg in Montevideo and due to the large margin, it is highly unlikely that Jordan will progress past the two-time World Champions.

Maxi Pereira scored Uruguay's opener by capitalizing on a rebound in the 22nd minute. Christian Stuani doubled the South American's lead just before half-time.

Uruguay did not let up after the break with Nicolas Lodeiro, Cristian Rodriguez and Edinson Cavani adding three more goals.
