If you do not have a head for heights look away now. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has released footage of the new spire being installed on the World Trade Center building in Manhattan.

The edifice, which is colloquially known as the Freedom Tower, is set to become the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, standing at a symbolic height of 1,776 metres and will be the third highest building on the planet when completed. It surpassed the Empire State Building as New York's tallest building in April.

The spire itself stands at 408 feet (124 metres) and the Port Authority decided to give the public a bird's eye view of the structure as it reached for the skies by attaching a camera.

The four construction workers who help fit the spire into place obviously do not suffer from vertigo.
