Google has announced that former Morgan Stanley CFO Ruth Porat will replace Patrick Pichette, who publicly announced that he is leaving the company two weeks ago.

Ms Porat first joined Morgan Stanley in 1987, and became CFO in 2010. During her time at the firm she advised some of the world's biggest internet companies when making their IPOs - including eBay and Amazon.

During the financial crisis she advised the United States Department of the Treasury on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - and the New York Federal Reserve Bank when AIG was in trouble.

She considered running to be deputy Treasury of the United States in 2013 - but it is reported that she decided not to because she was worried that a post-crash anti-Wall St sentiment in Washington would affect her chances.

After she joins Google on May 26th she will report directly to CEO Larry Page.
