A well known priest has died in a house fire in Co Kerry.
The blaze broke out at the house in Fenit village near Tralee in the early hours of this morning.
82 year old Gearoid O'Donnchada was a retired lecturer and local historian, who had served in the UK and USA, and twice crossed the Atlantic ocean in small boats, and published a book on the journey of St Brendan.

He caused controversy in 2014 when he said he would not break the seal of confession even in a matter of child protection.
The cause of the fire is being investigated but Gardai are not treating it as suspicious.
