Whistleblower Maurice McCabe is to join the garda unit investigating the latest penalty points debacle. Sergeant McCabe will join the Professional Standards Unit tomorrow for at least a week.

McCabe has made a fresh round of allegations that the system is still being abused by some members of the gardaí, after he was given information by other officers.

The investigation is expected to be published within the next month.

Yesterday, the Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald and interim Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan rejected claims that the force is ill-disciplined and out of control.
