Willie Walsh, International Airlines Group's (IAG) chief executive received a pay rise of almost 30 percent during 2014 - bringing his total pay to €7.9m.

He received a base salary of over €1m - a bonus of €2m - pension benefits of €262,000 - and long-term incentives worth €4.5m.

This information comes from IAG's annual report - the document also makes specific references to the company's attempt to buy Aer Lingus - and plans to develop Dublin as an international hub:

"Following its own restructuring, the Irish carrier has made impressive progress and it has built a particularly interesting transatlantic network, using Dublin as a hub."

It continues: "We think its business model fits very neatly with IAG and being part of the group, would, we believe, bring big benefits for both Aer Lingus and our shareholders."

Mr Walsh is due to meet unions tomorrow morning as the group continues its attempts to acquire the Irish airline.

Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe has confirmed that IAG representatives met with Government officials yesterday to discuss the group’s proposed offer for Aer Lingus. The two parties are due to meet again next week.

Last week IAG upgraded its profit forecast for 2015 by over 20 percent after posting a €1.3bn profit for 2014 - an increase of 81 percent on the previous year.

IAG’s fourth quarter operating profit in 2014 was €260m before exceptional items - that’s an increase on a €113m profit posted in the same quarter in 2013.
