A woman in her 50s has been killed in a three vehicle crash in Co Waterford.

The incident happened at Kielys Cross in Ardmore at around 5:30pm yesterday evening.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two other people travelling in the same car as the woman - who was a backseat passenger - were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The two occupants of a second car were also taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries, while a further two occupants of the third car were uninjured.

The injured people were taken to Waterford and Clonmel Hospitals.

The driver of the third car - who is 18 - was arrested by officers at the scene and is being held at Dungarvan garda station for questioning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.

The road was closed for a time to facilitate an examination by garda forensic collision investigators, but has since reopened.
