A woman in her mid 50s had died in a collision in Moycullen, Co Galway.

It happened at around 4.30 this morning on the N59 Galway Clifton Road when the car she was driving hit a wall.

A male passenger, aged in his early 50s, was not seriously injured.

The deceased woman was taken to University Hospital Galway where a post mortem will be carried out.

The man was also taken there for treatment.

The road is currently closed and diversions are in place.

Gardai are appealing for anyone who was travelling on the N59 close to Moycullen between 4 and 5 am this morning to contact them at Salthill.
