Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in Tallaght in Dublin.

The grim discovery was made yesterday afternoon at about 1.30 pm at a house on Woodlawn Park Grove in Firhouse.

A woman in her late 50s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body has been removed to Tallaght Hospital where a post mortem is due to take place, and gardaí say their inquiries are ongoing.

Gardaí at Rathfarnham were responding to a callout to the woman's house when they found the body.

The Coroner and office of the State Pathologist were notified.

The scene is preserved pending the results of a post mortem examination and enquiries are ongoing.
