A Canadian couple who asked internet users to vote on a name for their baby have decided against using the winning suggestion.

In January, Stephen McLaughlin set up namemydaughter.com, which allowed users to vote on first and middle names for the expected baby.

Unsurprisingly, some of the names were far from the usual – and the winning name was “Cthulhu Allspark,” a reference to a supernatural monster which appeared in the works of horror writer HP Lovecraft.

Despite this, the website later announced the birth of the child, named Amelia Savannah Joy McLaughlin, earlier this month. ‘Amelia’ had ranked second in voting on the site.

McLaughlin always intended to have the final say in the matter, saying on the website: “Unfortunately internet I know better than to trust you. We will ultimately be making the final decision.”

Other suggested names included: Megatron, Salad, Streetlamp Le' Moose and Le-dash-a.

"MEGATRON, YOUR DINNER'S READY!"

Hmm. Works for us...
