It's no secret that cannabis has been popular amongst musicians for quite some time - artists as diverse as Brian Wilson, Louis Armstrong and Snoop Lion (formerly Dogg) have acknowledged it as an influence.
And there may well be truth behind these claims, writes PolicyMic. A scientific study called "Marijuana and Music: A Speculative Exploration" by Peter Webster claims that cannabis can increase one's appreciation of musical stimuli. The effect is near universal and does not fade with time, allowing those who consume the drug to experience music on a more complex, artful level.
There's is also the possibility that it increases creativity, with one study showing that users are more easily able to bring together seemingly unrelated concepts. Though there is no consensus on this point, there does seem to be a strong link between cannabis consumption and creativity. In his study, Webster writes:
"...the kind of perception and thinking initiated by cannabis leads one to be generally more open to alternative and perhaps adventurous ways of seeing things which enrich normal consciousness."
So smoking might not turn you into a musical genius over night, but along with some old-fashioned hard work, it seems some scientist believe it will enhance your creative edge.
