Geoghegan Quinn set for EU post

Máire Geoghegan Quinn looks set to be appointed as Ireland’s next EU Commissioner.

All member states are expected to put forward their nominees by the end of this week.

The former Fianna Fail Minister will have to go through a full hearing process before the European Parliament in order to get its approval.

The President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso has already said he would like a more equal gender balance in the top EU jobs.
