Girl settles anti-depressants case

An 8 year old girl with profound disabilities has settled a High Court action – for €500,000 against two doctors – over anti-depressants prescribed during her mother’s pregnancy.

The mother of Rebecca, 40 year old Lisa Glynn McGillin took the case – claiming she was not properly warned of the possible side-effects of the drug Epilim.

There was no admission of liability as part of the settlement – with psychiatrist at the Mater, Professor Patricia Casey and obstetrician and gynaecologist Mary Holohan – who works at a clinic in the Rotunda Hospital.

Originally from Dublin but now living in Omagh, Lisa Glynn McGillin told reporters outside court it was never about money.

“I’m delighted for my daughter – and I’m delighted that somebody….that I am not responsible for what happened to her” she said.

“That has meant an awful lot to me – and that’s what this was about”.

“It was never about money, but obviously it will help to secure her future” she added.
