Paidi O'Se was one of the Kingdom's greatest sons and will always be associated for his the part he played in the greatest Kerry team of them all.

Kerry got the ball rolling on an unprecedented era of success with a first All Ireland title in five years in 1975. It was Paidi's first as a player and a first of many.

Over the next 11 years, Kerry dominated, winning seven more with Paidi a key player in each of those triumphs.

Paidi won a final and joint-record eigth All Ireland title in 1986 beating Tyrone in the decider.

One stat said it all though. In the ten All Ireland finals he played in, he only conceded one point to his opponent.

Paidi retired from inter-county duty in 1987 but eight years later he was back - this time on the sideline.

In his first year in charge of Kerry he brought the 1996 Munster title back to the Kingdom for the first time in five years. However the team fell to Mayo at the All Ireland semi-final stage.

But the following year Paidi had built a team capable of sweeping all before them. They did not disappoint winning the National League, the Munster title and in the final they gained revenge on Mayo to lift Sam Maguire for the first time since O'Se last earned a winners medal as a player.

Paidi's Kerry won a second All-Ireland title in 2000 but they had to do it the hard way.

Galway came from seven points down to earn a draw in the initial encounter. But a 0-17 to 1-10 victory in the replay gave Paidi his tenth All Ireland title overall.

In 2003 Paidi took over the Westmeath footballers and in his first season in charge his team made history.

In a provincial decider against Laois in 2004, Westmeath prevailed and with that Paidi had delivered a first ever Leinster title for the county.
