Brendan O’Brien has been a frontline current affairs and news journalist for more than three decades. In that period he has covered most of the principal news-making events, has interviewed the leading political figures of the period and extensively covered local and regional affairs. He is author of two books on the IRA and Sinn Fein and has received several awards for television reporting, including investigations on crime and drugs, poverty in Ireland and AIDS in Africa.
Brendan is married to Helen. They have five children. As a family they have travelled widely, in Europe and further afield but always holding a special affection for Spain. Brendan’s travel bug began when he was just getting out of shorts, as a student hitch-hiking to strange places. He began his working career at a high level, in charge of empty tins at Jacobs biscuit factory in Dublin… later qualifying as a secondary-school teacher, teaching history.
