Newstalk is proud that it gave our George his first prime time radio programme in April 2002. Since then The Right Hook has grown from strength to strength and has propelled George Hook to a position where he is an instantly recognisable face in Irish media. His meteoric rise, at a time of life when he himself suggests that he “should be consulting an undertaker,” has no equal in Irish broadcasting history. In 2005 George published his best selling autobiography ‘Time Added On’. George was the Dublin Chamber of Commerce’s most popular speaker in 2006.
George is the ‘People’s Presenter’ and through his strong probing style he continues to champion the causes of the man in the street and to challenge the decisions of those in authority
The success of the Right Hook has been due, in no small measure, to the ability of George to connect with his audience and wear his heart on his sleeve. On any given day George will exude passion, anger, laughter, upset and empathy, connecting the listener to subjects they want to engage with.
George is married to “the lovely” Ingrid, and has three children, Michelle, George and Alison.
