Trevor Sargent says he doesn’t believe information which led to his resignation was leaked by Fianna Fail.
There’s fresh embarassment today for the former junior minister with the Evening Herald reporting that he wrote to a senior garda only last week concerning a criminal prosecution being taken against a constituent.
Despite insisting he’d made no contact since the original representation two years ago , Mr. Sargent asked a Superintendent to “keep on this case” as he feared for the safety of Dominic McGowan.
The Garda Commissioner’s confirmed that a Chief Superintendent is being appointed to investigate the leaks.
The Green Party TD says he doesn’t believe the opposition claims that the letters were leaked by Fianna Fail in revenge for his party’s pressure on Willie O’Dea to resign last week.
