Regular Features

16.20 Monday to Friday – What’s on!

The Moncrieff Team gives you a guide on what is happening around the country. We will give you the relevant information on the

biggest gigs, theatre productions, what to watch on the TV or even if you fancy going to the cinema we’ll have the details!

15.45 Monday – The Obituary Slot

Dead but not forgotten.  Each Monday John Kelleher comes into studio to tell us all about someone who died recently that we may not have known.  The slot highlights figures that have influenced the lives around us … even though we may not know their name.

15.30 Tuesday – Moral Philosophy

Each week Moncrieff invites an expert in Philosophy into studio to discuss the moral arguments surrounding the main news story of the week. Subjects which have been covered to date include Racial Profiling, The War on Terror and Stem Cell Research. Listeners are invited to contribute with their own moral dilemmas so that  Sean and the Philosopher can tease out the dilemma and hopefully come out with the best possible outcome.

15.00 Wednesday – Parenting

In Association With

In Association With

15.45 Wednesday – The Farming Slot

Each week Mairead Lavery from the Irish Farmers Journal comes in to talk us through what is going on in the farming community that week. Whether your work involves walking the fields or sitting at a desk it’s always good to know what lullaby milk is and what exactly an AI man does!

In Association With

In Association With

Are you a food lover?  Want to know more about where your food comes from and a new recipe thrown in to boot?

Then tune in every Thursday at 3pm when Paolo Tullio will be taking us on a trip down culinary lane.

15.20 Friday – Movies and Booze

Sean is joined in studio by our movie reviewer and booze expert to discuss the latest cinema releases and a selection of beer or wine.

Each week in a relaxed and casual environment the three chat about movies over some beer or wine just like being in a pub or at a dinner party!
If you are interested in joining our Wine Club mailing list you can email winelist@newstalk.ie with ‘subscribe‘ in the subject line. We will then send out a weekly email reminding you of all the wines and beers we’ve covered, where they’re from, where they can be bought, how much they cost, what vintages are good, which ones are bad, what they’re similar to and what  flavours our experts can find in them.   It’s free to subscribe and available in your inbox after the show every Friday.
Whether you’re a connoisseur of vintage claret or if you don’t know your Riesling from your Rioja, or if you simply enjoy sampling the many different beers, lagers and ales of the world, the Moncrieff Wine Club is the place for you.  Tell a friend and happy sampling!!!

16.20 Friday – The Q Tip
The Q-Tip – A list of songs you really should own

I do realise I'm completely late with this but I have to make the point that if you have to pick a book by Cormac McCarthy for the list then it should be Blood Meridian, not The Road. Blood Meridian is a sweeping, almost biblical, blood-stained epic about the brutality of the American West in the 1850s and, by extension, man's inherently violent nature. In cinematic terms think Terence Malick's The New World meets The Proposition or The Wild Bunch. Obviously the fact that The Road was made into a film made it more well known. I know I'm locking the barn after the horse has bolted but I just wanted to mention it.

This is one of my favourite books but so difficult to explain when people ask me "what's it about?". I've only recomended it to two people because I'm afraid someone will read it and hate it, that hasn't happened yet thankfully!
