The Right Hook is the Newstalk drivetime show presented by the outspoken controversial pundit and Corkman George Hook.

This flagship programme combines hard-hitting news and current affairs with strong comment and opinion presented in George’s inimitable style. The Right Hook unashamedly plays to George’s strong personality. He has lived a full and varied life and brings that experience to the show on a daily basis.

George is the People’s Presenter and through his strong probing style he continues to champion the causes of the man in the street and to challenge the decisions of those in authority, whether it’s transport, the health service or consumer affairs. George has strong opinions on them all.

The success of the Right Hook has been due, in no small measure, to the ability of George to connect with his audience and wear his heart on his sleeve.

On any given day George will exude passion, anger, laughter, upset and empathy, connecting the listener to subjects they want to engage with.

I just happened across this while flicking through the stations on Friday evening and it was the most entertaining debate I've heard in ages. Good on you Senator Norris. Also, I was so entertained by Michael Graham that I'll definately be tuning into George's show from here on in.

Gripping, Inspiring and Courageous. Made me realize everyone has inner turmoil and self doubt no matter how outwardly confident they appear.

In reply to the comments from MaireSligo. I disagree with the statements made and I wish to say that Cllr Cawley was at the front of every demonstration about saving Cancer Services and every petition in Sligo and Dublin. She was at every meeting in Sligo IT to support the S.O.S. comittee. As a person who has known her for a long time I disagree that she plays political games. With regard to the subject of O'Connell Street, Sligo. There is no doubt that the decision to close O'Connell st was premature and as there was a rush from the Sligo Co Council Manager to go ahead and push this closure even though there was no bridge over the Garavogue to accomodate the traffic to/from the east side of Sligo. There are so many cases of the cart before the horse in the decisions taken at management level in our Co Council office that I cannot understand how educated people can continue with it. Because of the deletion of the eastern bridge and all the delays and protests from the people in Sligo, the funding for the bridge and rejuvination project will be gone and it will be 25 years to get the bridge in the east side of town. The "uneducated" of us knew that there was need of a 2nd bridge 25years ago. So we are still waiting for a bridge that probably won't be built in our lifetime and the people with vested interests in the businesses of Sligo will continue to block projects until there is something for them in it!

Veronica Cawley on the show tonight said it was a shame that the people of Sligo didn't bring the same enthusiasm to keeping our cancer services in Sligo as we have to keeping O'Connell Street pedestrianised. Where has she been for the last few years???? What on earth does she call all the campaigns, the marches, the petitions, the demonstrations, the discussion on the radio station?? She's playing the typical political game, looking to the main chance (i.e. getting votes - it makes me sick every time I hear a politician claim a mandate from the people) and forgetting that like most of the other politicians here did very little to save those services. How dare she?? Máire

Hundreds of jobs are at risk in the retail sector in Sligo as tens of thousands cross the border to shop in Enniskillen. What is the point of saving a few euros across the border if you lose your job in January? If so many jobs were at risk in any other sector there would be uproar. The decisions Sligo's consumers take in the next days and months, will determine whether many of our businesses will survive and whether hundreds of Sligo's redidents will retain their jobs in the new year. Cross border shopping is no longer about price comparisons - it is about jobs. It is time for Sligo's consumers to realise that it is within their power to save our town. Please support Sligo business this Christmas. Phelim O'Neill, Sligo's Fair Dealer Campaign. Check us out on www.fairdealer.org
