A Dublin woman who is charged with assisting in the suicide of another woman is to go on trial in April of next year.

Gail O'Rorke (42) from Kilclare Gardens in Tallaght is charged with aiding, abetting, counseling or procuring the suicide of Bernadette Forde between March 10th and June 6th 2011.

She is the first person in the State to be prosecuted under Section 2 of the Criminal Law Act, 1993. Judge Mary-Ellen Ring has set a date of April 13th for the trial which is expected to last for two to three weeks.

Last month it emerged that her defence team has sought details from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) as to why a case is being taken.

Anne Rowland BL, defending, said on March 23rd last that the DPP had been asked to supply "criteria" for prosecution and that depending on the response, it may be necessary to start proceedings elsewhere.

Ms. Rowland said she has received eight volumes of disclosure relating to the case.

The Judge had adjourned the matter to today. Ms. O'Rorke must also appear before the court on March 13th for a pre-trial hearing.
