So it was all just one big Irish whiskey-fuelled misunderstanding.

That’s what actor Shia LaBeouf said was the driving force behind the erratic behaviour that saw the actor arrested for interrupting a performance of the musical Cabaret off Broadway. The former Disney star's publicist confirmed he was seeking treatment voluntarily after being removed from the theatre for smacking actor Alan Cumming’s rear mid-performance and breaking into song.

This week, the actor appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Live chat show, to divulge the back story of the crowning point of his two-year career meltdown - his high-profile arrest. It seems it was direct result of consuming vast quantities of Irish whiskey while visiting his girlfriend in Ireland when last summer’s FIFA World Cup was going on in Brazil.

Not quite sure how a tipple in Tipperary can be blamed for the actor chasing a homeless man around Times Square, but the actor’s drinking during his filming of the movie Fury – and subsequent promotional tour – is somehow also a part of it.

It seems the whole incident involved copious amounts of whiskey, copping a feel of Cumming, getting removed from a theatre, running after a homeless man, feeding strawberries to a random woman, spitting on a police officer’s shoe, and chowing down on an Egg McMuffin.

Sounds like an average Wednesday night in Temple Bar, in fairness…
