Luiz Felipe Scolari looks set to remain as manager of the Brazilian national side despite the record breaking 7-1 humiliation at the hands of Germany in the World Cup semi-final.

The home side exited the tournament with an astonishing implosion on Tuesday night, conceding 5 goals in the opening half an hour at the Estadio Mineirao.

In the wake of the defeat Scolari was expected to leave his post as manager, or be sacked by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). However, CBF president elect Marco Pol Del Nero, has told Brazilian newspaper Estado de Sao Paulo, that he believes Scolari should continue in his role.

“To me, he stays,” Del Nero said.

“What happened was a tactical error. That was the problem. But we all make mistakes. It can happen to anyone.

“The important thing is that he did a good job. The campaign and the preparations were good. A base exists.”

Brazil face the Netherlands tonight in the third place play-off and Scolari says he is not looking beyond that game.

“The first phase of my job finishes on Saturday,” Scolari said to reporters yesterday.

“After that I will prepare my report and then I will talk with the presidents. They will look at what was right and what was wrong in what I did, but I know in the last year and a half we had several good situations.

“We have to be ashamed of the 7-1. It was a catastrophe, but I have to ask the media – is everything bad because of one result?”
