Madonna, the pop star that invented reinvention, has revealed more of herself than we’ve seen in a while in a photoshoot for Interview magazine. Baring her breasts and nipples in the publication’s art issue, the Material Girl, who at 56 has perhaps left her claims to girlhood far behind her, is once again commanding the global media pay attention to her.And pay attention they did, with Newstalk's very own Pat Kenny offering his take:
If Miley Cyrus and Kim Kardashian can do it, then Madonna, the world’s leading female musician for the last 30 years, can do it too. After all, she's done it before. And she'll probably do it again.
Needless to say, the reaction has been far reaching online, with countless tweets weighing in on the topic of Madonna’s boundary pushing or attention seeking. Here’s a look at what people were saying online:
Some people thought it was inspiring:
There's something comforting about the fact #Madonna's still putting out albums and body parts at 56. Good for you, pet.

I've just seen the Madonna photos. She looks SO GOOD.

Why are people hating on Madonna for posing topless? If I looked half as good as she does at her age, I'd be walking around naked daily.

Hate ageism. It's so suburban. great pic of Madonna. Get off the age train at the next stop x pic.twitter.com/e0M76j1E9s

Some people thought it wasn't very becoming for a woman of her age:
Madonna: Put 'em away love, Such naked product placement. We've already guessed your 2015 World Tour is sponsored by Photoshop.

Whenever Madonna puts on some different clothes, everyone says "ooh look she's REINVENTED herself again"

I thought they couldn't make a "Madonna" link any more unclickable – they did it with "Madonna NSFW"

As an older woman I feel qualified to say-Madonna, put them away Nobody wants to see u desperately clinging to youth http://t.co/X7v803uZcD
— Not So Stupid Voter (@Discoveringme40) December 2, 2014
@Madonna Get a grip woman, just enjoy your retirement.
— Joe Delves (@JoeDelves) December 2, 2014
Then there were some jokes:
Do Madonna’s nipples have a twitter account yet?
— Alex Micu (@axelk) December 2, 2014
Can't believe it is 2014 and people are STILL typing "Madonna topless" into search engines. It's like 1995 and AltaVista never went away
— Martin Belam (@MartinBelam) December 2, 2014
And then there was this unfortunate comparison for everyone involved:
Just seen Madonna topless in the paper, reminded me of Gazza pic.twitter.com/V6uttawYL0
