Last time out South Korea were penalty kicks away from reaching the World Cup quarter-finals. But since then things have not gone exactly to plan.

The Taeguk Warriors qualified for Brazil automatically but only avoided sinking into the playoffs by a whisker, pipping Uzbekistan.

Led by former captain and defensive legend Hong Myung Bo, Korea will be satisfied with Group H and will fancy their chances of qualifying from a group featuring Belgium, Russia and Algeria.

There is a strong Bundesliga contingent in the squad with Bayer Leverkusen winger Son Heung Min and ex-Sunderland and soon-to-be Borussia Dortmund forward Ji-Dong Won the most well-known to an Irish audience.

Sunderland midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung provides the composure in midfield.

Newstalk's Team 33 previewed the Taeguk Warriors with Jae-Hyeok Lee and you click here to see what he had to say about the poor qualification campaing, players to watch and hopes for the summer.
